Title | “Freedom to Marry” Pamphlet |
Date | circa 1995 |
Description | Lambda Legal, founded in 1973, represents the rights of LGBTQ people and the rights of individuals living with HIV. This 1995 brochure from Lambda Legal shows the early organizing efforts of Lambda’s Marriage Project, which worked to ensure that same-sex marriages would be legally recognized throughout the United States. The brochure references Baehr v. Lewin, a case that supporters hoped would legalize same-sex marriage in the state of Hawaii. Lambda’s Marriage Project ended in 2015, after the landmark Supreme Court Case Henry v. Hodges helped to establish marriage equality throughout the country. The brochure also contained an insert from the National Gay and Lesbian Task Force (NGLTF). The insert advertises a resource published by NGLTF in 1995. |
