Title | Lambda Legal Calendar |
Date | 2008 |
Description | Lambda Legal’s Life without Fair Courts 2008 calendar imagines a sort of alternate-reality United States: how the country might look — particularly for LGBTQ people — if the US Supreme Court had not upheld the rights of individuals in certain landmark cases. Three months of the calendar are included here. Note April 2008’s “Impact” statement, which discusses a 2004 case about workplace discrimination against people with HIV. The May 2008 image references the 1996 case Romer v. Evans, which overturned state attempts to prohibit LGBTQ people from claiming discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation. The June 2008 image points to the 2003 case Lawrence v. Texas, which overturned state sodomy laws that were upheld by the Supreme Court in Bowers v. Hardwick. |
