Celebrate GLBT history month |
Title | “Celebrate GLBT History Month” Poster |
Date | circa 2009 |
Description | LGBT History Month is celebrated annually in the United States in October. It was founded in 1994 by Rodney Wilson, a Missouri high school teacher, who chose the month to coincide with the already-established National Coming Out Day on October 11 and with the remembrance of the first National March on Washington for Lesbian and Gay Rights on October 14, 1979. LGBT History Month was endorsed early on by several organizations, including the Gay, Lesbian and Straight Education Network (GSLEN), the Human Rights Campaign, GLAAD, and the National Education Network. This flyer for The University of Alabama’s LGBT History Month activities advertises a showing of Milk, a 2008 film about San Francisco politician and gay rights activist Harvey Milk, who was assassinated in 1978. |
