Title | Friends Atlanta Newsletter with 1989 Pride Week Events |
Date | 1989 |
Description | The first Pride parade in Atlanta, Georgia, was held in 1971, making it one of the earliest Pride parades in the United States. (Four cities–New York, Chicago, Los Angeles, and San Francisco–had held parades in 1970 on the anniversary of the Stonewall Riots.) This newsletter from the LGBTQ social group Friends Atlanta advertises festivities for the city’s 1989 Pride Week, including a celebration for the twentieth anniversary of Stonewall on June 28. Atlanta’s mayor, Maynard Jackson, appeared at the Atlanta Pride celebration that year. Friends Atlanta was established in 1985 to provide recreational and cultural events for its members. |
