Title | Victims of Hate Vigil Flyer |
Date | 2009 |
Description | The Victims of Hate Vigil, otherwise known as the Vigil for Victims of Hate and Violence, has been held every year since the 1999 murder of Billy Jack Gaither. This flyer for the eleventh annual Vigil–held February 15, 2009, on the steps of the Alabama Capitol Building in Montgomery–advertises the presentation of the Billy Jack Gaither Humanitarian Award as well as a speech by the director of Equality Alabama, a statewide LGBTQ advocacy group founded in 2002. Equality Alabama facilitates nominations for the annual award, which is given to those who work for justice and the eradication of hatred. The award and the vigil in Gaither’s memory were established in part by Dr. Beverly Hawk of The University of Alabama. |
