- Description
- The outside décor includes two large pig sculptures, as well as a “grit tree” near the parking lot. The interior is basic “country”—wood paneling, linoleum floors, acoustic tiles on the ceiling (with extra acoustic panels to dampen the noise in the spacious dining room). Pictures and posters about events and locations important in North Carolina history ring the room. The restaurant is on the outskirts of Charlotte, just off one of the main interstates through town (I-77), between Uptown Charlotte and Lake Norman. The BBQ served here is determinedly traditional eastern NC BBQ. The meat is pulled/shredded pork, and what we ordered arrived juicy and well-spiced even before we put our sauce of choice on it. If you order a plate, you get a pile of meat with your sides (and endless hush puppies), not meat on a bun (if you want that, order a sandwich, not the lunch special). One taster ordered the chicken and dumplings rather than the BBQ plate, and that was delicious.
