{"id":3508,"date":"2016-01-27T15:59:29","date_gmt":"2016-01-27T21:59:29","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/apps.lib.ua.edu\/blogs\/digitalservices\/?p=3508"},"modified":"2016-01-27T15:59:29","modified_gmt":"2016-01-27T21:59:29","slug":"camp-aliceville","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/apps.lib.ua.edu\/blogs\/coolathoole\/2016\/01\/27\/camp-aliceville\/","title":{"rendered":"The World of Camp Aliceville"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Like hundreds of other communities in the U.S. during WWII, Aliceville, Alabama, was home to a prisoner of war camp.\u00a0Between June 1943 and September 1945,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Camp_Aliceville\">Camp Aliceville<\/a>\u00a0saw hundreds of thousands of German soldiers come and go, a time which left an impression on both the men and the town.<\/p>\n<p>We are\u00a0lucky enough to\u00a0have digital versions of\u00a016\u00a0audio interviews given in the mid-1990s by\u00a0people involved with the camp, including staff and townspeople\u00a0as well as six\u00a0former\u00a0prisoners:\u00a0Gene Dakan Kenneth Eugene, Walter Fetholter, Theo Klein, Henrich Most, Wilhelm Schlegel, and Karl Silberreis. (The recordings of Klein and Most are in German.)<\/p>\n<p>Most range from 10-30 minutes.
