||AIDS Memorial Quilt at Ferguson Center
||The AIDS Memorial Quilt began in 1987 in San Francisco as a way to memorialize people who had died of AIDS. It was first exhibited in full at the second National March on Washington for Lesbian and Gay Rights in October 1987. The quilt, now consisting of over 48,000 individual panels, has been shown around the United States, and has traveled to Alabama several times. In 1996, quilt panels created for Alabama AIDS victims were displayed in the Ferguson Student Center at The University of Alabama.
