Description<\/td>\nEditors of this first issue of The Lavender Tide<\/em>–the newsletter for The University of Alabama’s LGBTQ student organization, then called Gay\/Lesbian Support Services (G\/LSS)–noted they had received an overwhelming amount of material from potential contributors. The eight-page August 1989 newsletter includes a firsthand account from a G\/LSS member who attended the first annual Pride Parade in Birmingham in June 1989, concerns about diversity within the G\/LSS, and a note introducing a gay and lesbian reading group in Tuscaloosa, Alabama.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n
