{"id":668,"date":"2019-08-06T21:02:32","date_gmt":"2019-08-06T21:02:32","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/apps.lib.ua.edu\/blogs\/renovations\/?p=668"},"modified":"2019-08-06T21:02:32","modified_gmt":"2019-08-06T21:02:32","slug":"august-5-update","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/apps.lib.ua.edu\/blogs\/renovations\/2019\/08\/06\/august-5-update\/","title":{"rendered":"August 5 Update"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>UAF:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The construction project at the University Archive Facility is\nmoving along and is close to being on schedule.&nbsp; We still anticipate that\nthe building will be completed in late fall of 2019.&nbsp; A reconfiguration of\nthe existing janitor\u2019s closet and restroom in the Annex are part of the\nconstruction plan because the changes were required by code.&nbsp; This part of\nthe project has been inside the current building and has created a lot of\ncommotion, but should be completed by the end of August.&nbsp; There will be a\nscheduled water outage at the Annex tomorrow so that the contractor can make a\nnew connection to the old sprinkler system in the building.&nbsp; A new pump\nthat will regulate the pressure in the existing fire suppression system will be\ninstalled.&nbsp; Orders for the compact moveable shelving and the Raymon lift\nare being finalized.&nbsp; The Raymon lift will be used to pick items from the\ncompact moveable shelve in the UAF.&nbsp; The shelving in the Special\nCollections area of the UAF will be 24 feet tall.&nbsp; In the General\nCollections area, there are plans to install shelving that will be various\nheights, with the tallest sections measuring 18 feet tall.&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>JavaCity:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The JavaCity construction project is nearing completion.&nbsp; The\nceilings, walls, and floors have been replaced and the whole area looks fresh\nand bright. New plumbing and drains have been installed, as well as new\ncountertops.&nbsp; Electrical and data lines have been installed to accommodate\nnew points of sale kiosks as well as other functions in the space.&nbsp; The\nmoveable security gate is in place and the millwork for the JavaCity service\ncounter and work space is scheduled to be installed on August 8.&nbsp; JavaCity\nis expected to be fully operational when classes begin on August 21. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Second Floor Meeting Room Project:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A lot of progress has been made in the renovation of 205C and 205\nto create a multi-use space for meetings and events. &nbsp;Sheetrock is going\nup, as well as celling grids.&nbsp; Wall partitions and door openings have been\nframed for the new storage area and catering area, as well as the new entrance\ninto the north side of the room.&nbsp; This week, the track for the moveable\nwall will be installed.&nbsp; Backing for the video wall has been installed in\neach of the two areas and electrical and data lines have been routed around the\nroom.&nbsp; This project is on track to be completed in November, 2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Restrooms and Adjacent Areas Project:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Work on the first floor restroom has gained momentum and should be\ncomplete by the middle of September.&nbsp; The second floor restroom is also\nmoving along according to schedule and should be turned back over to us in\nOctober\/early November.&nbsp; The Circulation Desk on second floor has been\nremoved, and the tile and ceilings in that area and to the right and left of\nthe Circulation Desk have been removed.&nbsp; New ceiling grid, ceiling tiles\nand lights are being installed in those areas.&nbsp; Behind the Circulation\nDesk, the storage area for equipment will be revamped to provide more efficient\nstorage space for cameras, laptops, and other equipment &nbsp;circulated from\nthe Circulation Desk.&nbsp; The second floor elevator lobby will be refreshed\nwith a new coat of paint, new floors and a new ceiling. A new water fountain,\nequipped with water bottle filler, &nbsp;will be installed in that foyer.&nbsp;\nAll water fountains that are currently located in elevator lobbies will be\nreplaced with new water fountains that are equipped with water bottle\nfillers.&nbsp; Access to all materials and all study rooms remains open.&nbsp;\nThe Circulation Desk is operating from a temporary location on the second floor\nof Gorgas Library in Pearce Foyer. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The schedule for the restrooms has been revised and the completion\ndate for the restrooms will be June\/July 2020.&nbsp; I will get a revised\nschedule to you very soon so that you will know when the work will be done on\nthe floor where you work.&nbsp; The contractor anticipates being able to pick\nup the pace as they move through the building, but the demolition work is very\ntedious and slow due to the extremely sturdy construction techniques that were\nused when the existing spaces were built.&nbsp; The first floor restroom\npresented many unexpected issues that were not shown in the drawings from the\noriginal construction of that area (i.e., &nbsp;depth of slab that had to be\ncut was 10\u201d instead of 4\u201d).&nbsp; As we move upward through the building, we\nwill have a plan for how your space will be affected and will share that with\nyou.&nbsp; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Elevator Project:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The installation of the new staff elevator is moving forward at\nwhat seems to be a snail\u2019s pace.&nbsp; Demolition in the old shaft is\ncomplete.&nbsp; This week, you will be aware of the work that will be going on\nin the basement.&nbsp; The foundation for the new elevator machine room will be\nconstructed over the next week or so.&nbsp; In order to do that, the existing\nfoundation in that area will have to be saw-cut and the debris will be carried\nout.&nbsp; Then the space will be back-filled and a new foundation will be\npoured.&nbsp; This will create the base for the elevator machinery.&nbsp; The\ncompletion date for the staff elevator is estimated to be in late\nJanuary\/February, 2020.&nbsp; Once the staff elevator is operational, one of\nthe passenger elevators will be taken off-line and the replacement of that car\nand controls will begin.&nbsp; Then, when that passenger elevator is operational,\nthe other passenger elevator will be taken off-line for the same type of\nwork.&nbsp; The shaft for the passenger elevators will not have to be altered,\nwhich should allow this project to move forward more quickly than the staff\nelevator, and without so much dust and noise.&nbsp; This project is scheduled\nto be completed by the end of July 2020.&nbsp; <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>UAF: The construction project at the University Archive Facility is moving along and is close to being on schedule.&nbsp; We still anticipate that the building will be completed in late fall of 2019.&nbsp; A reconfiguration of the existing janitor\u2019s closet and restroom in the Annex are part of the construction plan because the changes were &hellip; <a href=\"https:\/\/apps.lib.ua.edu\/blogs\/renovations\/2019\/08\/06\/august-5-update\/\" class=\"more-link\">Continue reading <span class=\"screen-reader-text\">August 5 Update<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":559,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"ngg_post_thumbnail":0,"footnotes":""},"categories":[1],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-668","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-uncategorized"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/apps.lib.ua.edu\/blogs\/renovations\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/668","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/apps.lib.ua.edu\/blogs\/renovations\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/apps.lib.ua.edu\/blogs\/renovations\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/apps.lib.ua.edu\/blogs\/renovations\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/559"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/apps.lib.ua.edu\/blogs\/renovations\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=668"}],"version-history":[{"count":1,"href":"https:\/\/apps.lib.ua.edu\/blogs\/renovations\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/668\/revisions"}],"predecessor-version":[{"id":669,"href":"https:\/\/apps.lib.ua.edu\/blogs\/renovations\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/668\/revisions\/669"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/apps.lib.ua.edu\/blogs\/renovations\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=668"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/apps.lib.ua.edu\/blogs\/renovations\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=668"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/apps.lib.ua.edu\/blogs\/renovations\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=668"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
