After discussion in the UXAG, Web Services\u00a0would like to solicit feedback on: 1) adding\u00a0limiters for print books, eBooks and streaming video to Scout and 2) a couple of\u00a0changes to the default Scout homepage. \u00a0A demo<\/a>\u00a0profile of\u00a0EDS has been set up so that you can see what these changes would look like\u00a0(note: if you are off campus, you will\u00a0need\u00a0to use our VPN to access this profile).<\/p>\n

New limiters<\/h2>\n

Because the books source type\u00a0includes print books, eBooks, audiobooks and other publication\u00a0types<\/a>, it currently\u00a0has to be used with other facets in Scout to narrow a search to print materials. \u00a0E-books and video appear on\u00a0the list of source types, but they are\u00a0often far down that\u00a0list. \u00a0Adding these three limiters to Scout\u00a0will\u00a0allow\u00a0users\u00a0to more easily search\u00a0the print book, eBook and streaming video records imported into Scout\u00a0from\u00a0our library\u00a0catalog.<\/p>\n

All three limiters use\u00a0publication types for filtering instead of source types. \u00a0For that reason, source types are not checked when the limiters are used (compare the print books limiter and the books source type\u00a0in the picture below).<\/p>\n

Scout homepage\u00a0changes<\/h2>\n

1) Search options will return\u00a0to\u00a0being hidden by default on the Scout homepage.<\/p>\n

2) Disciplines will be available when search options are expanded, but they will be hidden\u00a0by default. \u00a0Users will have the option of expanding disciplines by clicking “show topics.”<\/p>\n
