The image is a clear example of an enthymeme, a persuasive message dependent on the audience supplying common knowledge for its completion. Indeed, without context, it is difficult to determine that in this case \u201cV\u201d for \u201cvictory\u201d represents the purchasing Victory Liberty Loans, the fifth and final government backed bond for WWI. Set against a textured red backdrop, the large blue \u201cV\u201d beckons viewers across large distances.
