||Canvas Banner for Day of Silence
||The national Day of Silence is a student-led event during which people take a vow of silence to focus attention on the harassment of LGBTQ people. First organized by students at the University of Virginia in 1996, it spread to schools around the nation the next year. Since 2001, it has been sponsored by the Gay, Lesbian and Straight Education Network (GLSEN).
