C. Terry Cline, Jr., was born in Birmingham, Ala., and grew up in Florida. He briefly attended Florida State University in 1957 and served in the US Army in 1960. Although Cline decided as a teenager that he wanted to be a writer, he was unable to find a market for his first novels. In the 1960s and 1970s, he worked in radio and television and owned several businesses in Georgia and Alabama with his first wife, Linda Cline. In 1975, Damon became the first of nine novels Cline published between 1975 and 1989. Cline married author Judith Richards in 1979. The couple lives in Fairhope, Ala.
