And so it begins…

The construction crews are on site and ready to begin work in Gorgas Library!

For the first few days, they will be busy setting up their workspaces and fencing in areas on the Capstone Drive side of the building for dumpsters, a place to store materials, and areas that will be used for carrying debris out of the building.

UA personnel and furniture vendors are in the building today to move computers, relocate some student work stations in 102 and 104, and relocate some furniture.  There will be a final pre-construction meeting tomorrow and in a few days we will have an official timeline for the various phases of the work on the Core Project (elevators and restrooms).

UNIVERSITY LIBRARIES MAKES EXCEPTION FOR REQUIRED JUNE 1 PHYSICAL RENEWALS

University Libraries circulation policy requires faculty members and graduate students to physically renew all books before June 1.

Due to the Gorgas Library Renovation Project beginning May 6, faculty and graduate students will be allowed to renew items due June 1 online.

Renew items before or on June 1 to avoid overdue blocks.  Some items cannot be renewed online and must be brought into the library for renewal.

University Archive Facility

In addition to the Gorgas Renovation Project, we broke ground March 4, 2019 for the expansion of the University Archive Facility!

After three years of planning,  construction of the University Archive Facility has finally begun!  The University Archive Facility is a structure that is approximately 15,000 square feet and will be built as an addition to the Library Annex.  Approximately 1/3 of the new building will be dedicated to space for Special Collections and 2/3 of the space will be used for general collections.   The area for Special Collections will be constructed to withstand strong winds.  Clean agent fire suppression equipment will be used throughout the new building, and high bay, mobile shelving will be installed to maximize use of the space.  The University Archive Facility is expected to be completed and ready for use by late fall, 2019.
