| Description | Sidney H. Riesenberg was a talented American artist whose propaganda posters have become some of the most referred examples of war imagery from WWI. Riesenberg’s posters commonly drew on the symbolic power of the American flag to stir patriotic sentiment, and in this particular poster persuading men to enlist in the United States Marines, a group of soldiers land on a beach with a large American flag billowing in the background. The focal point of the poster is a tall, white soldier with broad shoulders, chiseled facial features, and a determined stare. On all sides of the image, red text provokes the viewer to enlist by stating “Your Country Needs You!” and “Now’s The Time to Enlist.” |
