Title | Eat More |
Creator | L.N. Britton |
Date | 1917 |
Format | 20 x 30 in |
Description | This wildly colorful poster illustrated by L.N. Britton for the U.S. Food Administration, depicts a bountiful food display on a brown table. The number and vividness of the colors in this intricate poster are designed to grab attention in order to impart an important lesson to audiences regarding the proper food habits needed to support the war effort. In tan, capitalized lettering, the poster instructs viewers to “EAT MORE” corn, fish, and vegetables, and “EAT LESS” wheat, meat, and fats. The verbal text is complemented by the image which tantalizingly illustrates the foods listed, while excluding the foods that the government wants to be conserved and shipped overseas. |
