Reno Update November 26

The renovation project will move into 4th floor in December. In preparation for the work that will be done on that floor, the conference rooms, 401 and 402, will not be available after November 30 until the project is completed on that floor.  New flooring, ceiling, and lighting will be installed in the 4th floor lobby area.  New carpet will extend into the offices at the south end of the floor and into the conference room, 402.  New carpet, ceiling, and lighting will be installed in conference room 401.  There will also be some upgrades to the technology in that space.

The restroom project is moving along at a slightly faster pace now.  The restrooms on second floor and the restrooms on 2M are expected to be completed and open by the beginning of second semester.  Work is currently underway in the restrooms on 3rd floor.  On December 13, the construction barrier will be built for the renovation of the restrooms on 4th floor.  In early January, renovation of the restrooms on 4M and 5th floor will begin.  There will be a lot of work going on in the library during the winter break.  Gorgas Library will be officially closed beginning at 5:00 p.m. on December 20, until we return to work on January 2.

The staff elevator is scheduled to be completed in March, and currently the restrooms are on track to be completed by May.  The passenger elevators project will likely extend into the summer of 2020.

Renovation Begins on Third Floor Restrooms

The third floor restroom will be closed October 22 and turned over to the contractor. All restroom trailers on Capstone Drive, in addition to restrooms on first, fourth, 4M, and fifth will be available for use. The restroom trailers will be open all hours that the library is open

Water Outage- October 17

There will be a brief water outage on Thursday morning, October 17.  The outage will begin at 6:00 a.m. and will end at approximately 8:00 a.m.  This outage is related to work that is currently underway in the second floor restroom.

The restroom trailer will be unlocked and available for use during the water outage.

First Floor Restrooms are OPEN!!

The restrooms on first floor are open to the public. One thing to remember- the men’s restroom is now on the right and women’s restroom on the left!

There is also a brand new nursing mothers room next to the 104 computer lab.

Demolition has begun on the restrooms on floor 2M.

Restroom Renovation Update

The contractors are finishing up  the final details for the first floor restrooms and the nursing mothers room, and anticipate that they will be cleaned, certified by all the necessary agencies and officials, and turned over to us for use by the end of next week, possibly sooner!

The tile and other finishes in the restrooms are the ones that were selected by popular vote last year.  They look great!  One slight disappointment is that the hot water that will eventually be available in all restrooms, will not be connected to the restrooms until all the restroom renovations have been completed.  The source of the hot water is on the 6th floor of this building, and the piping will not be connected to it until the end of the project.  We will not have hot water in the first floor restrooms on opening day, but don’t despair, we will get hot water at the end of the project!

After the first floor restroom is turned over to us, the contractors will build a construction partition on 2M and will begin work in those restrooms.

We anticipate that the 2nd floor restrooms will be completed in mid-November.  The second floor meeting rooms (the bump has been removed),  the Circulation Desk and adjacent areas, should be completed by then as well.  When the 2nd floor restrooms are completed, the renovation work will move up to the 3rd floor restrooms.  Thank you again for your cooperation and team spirit throughout this project.

National Food Day Celebrations

September 11 Update

You will begin to see some big changes next week on the first floor of Gorgas.  The construction barrier around the restroom area is scheduled to be taken down.  Then, ceiling tiles and carpet will be put back into place and the walls will receive final touch-up paint.  A new water fountain (with bottle-filler and filter) will be installed.  The first floor restroom is scheduled to be open and back on line before the end of September.  There will also be a Nursing Mothers Room adjacent to the first floor restrooms that will become available when the work in that area has been completed.

Gorgas 205 continues to move along on schedule.  That space is scheduled to be completed by November 15.

Along with the good news comes the dreadful sound of the saw-cutting in the elevator shaft.  What you have been hearing for the past few days is the very noisy process of saw-cutting the edges around the existing elevator shaft in order to get ready for installation of the new shaft and new elevator car.  The work is progressing slowly upward through the building, but should be completed before the end of September.

Once the restrooms on first floor have been inspected and turned over to us for use, the contractor will begin work in the restrooms on 2M.

The restroom on second floor is expected to be completed in early November.  Once that restroom is turned over to us, the work in the restrooms on 3rd floor will begin.
